“I need a favor.”
Anat
considered her reflection. She had
chosen well for the evening. The leopard
print dress hugged her petite frame in all the right places and the bright red
pumps were the perfect accent to draw the eyes down the expanse of bare leg. While it appeared light and simple her makeup
was the result of a painstaking process to help hide the inhumanness of her
features. The shadows of the bathroom
made her cheekbones a little too sharp and her eyes a little too hollow but
even in the dim light it was obvious that her hard work had paid off. She smiled to herself as she reached up and
began to deftly twist her hair into an intricate knot.
When
the figure appeared behind her Anat had to fight to keep from jumping. He shouldn’t have surprised her but there was
a look in his eyes that she knew all too well.
It was predatory and determined and it startled her. She met his eyes in the mirror and for a
moment they just stared at one another. Then
he was on her wrenching her head back at a painful angle. The knife was already pressing against her
neck before she even registered it, her eyes growing wide as he drew it across
her throat in one quick motion.
He was gone before she even hit the
ground.
